SHEIKH SALEEM BANDA CROWNED COMMUNITY BUILDER OF THE YEAR 2018

Minara Chamber of Commerce held its 9th annual Business Recognition Awards at NMJ Hall in Overport, Durban on 2nd November 2018. The prestigious annual awards are held in recognition of outstanding and innovative business, individuals and companies in spearheading inclusive economies and social upliftment.

The Community Builder Award is one of the highly contested categories drawing contestants from different initiatives aimed at building bridges of hope for the future and inspiring others to emulate the positive life transforming initiatives. Contestants in this category are recognised for their commitment, dedication, experience, excellence and sacrifices for their efforts in building better communities, promoting interfaith coexistence, social cohesion, peace and unity.

Sheikh Saleem Banda was awarded the coveted Community Builder Award of the Year for his tireless efforts, dedication and passion in community and social cohesion initiatives he has undertaken in his personal capacity and as Director of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY). The highlights of these milestones have been youth development, building of Masjids in black townships, care and support of orphans and vulnerable children, advancing girl child education and the promotion of dialogue and religious tolerance though his involvement with the Religions for Peace and the World Conference of Religions for Peace.

In accepting the award, Sheikh Saleem Banda expressed his humble appreciation to the organisers of the awards for the recognising the work WAMY done in building better communities. He also thanked TeamWAMY for their un usual kindness and dedication to work. “I am humbled to accept this award on behalf of WAMY and TeamWAMY, thank you for being an extraordinary team to work with” said Sheikh Saleem Banda

Sheikh Saleem Banda paid a moving tribute to the late Moulana Ihsan Hendricks who was WAMY local Trustee until the time of his passing. “This award is dedicated the visionary and inspiring leadership of Moulana Ihsan Hendricks who gave us all the support and guidance at WAMY during his term as a trustee, may Allah (SWT) grant him Jannah” remarked Sheikh Saleem Banda.
